Wisconsin Statewide Parent Educator Initiative

WSPEI is a service for parents, educators, and others interested in parent-educator partnerships for children with disabilities. It supports increased sharing of information among parents, schools, projects, organizations and agencies through networking meetings, conferences, person-to-person contact, and media. Mary Skadahl, is the State Project Coordinator. WSPEI offers  Parents in Partnership trainings to parents of children with disabilities in various regions of the state. The participants will attend four or five weekend sessions and learn about working with statewide systems and other educational issues. There are WSPEI Parent Coordinators in each of the 12 CESAs (Cooperative Educational Service Agencies) available to assist parents and educators. They can help with:

bulletNetworking: Connect families and educators with community, state, and national organizations which provide special education services.
bulletSupport: Support the development of Parent and Educator Advisory Committees and any other activities which build parent- school partnerships. Provide one-to-one assistance to parents and educators.
bulletEducation: Parents and educators are offered training, resources and networking opportunities to understand and increase involvement in the special education process.
bulletResources: Provide information, agency contacts, pamphlets and audio or video media on issues regarding special education, parenting and disabilities.
